About Orion Master Canvas
Tony and Kim are pure artisans to the core. Their service in the United States Army and United States Marine Corps as military musicians formed the cornerstone of their creative spirit. The couple expanded on their talents, building custom furniture to fund their college education. An avid seamstress, Kim worked with her mother to design and create custom-sewn goods throughout her lifetime.
While attending Ferris State University, the couple renovated an 1880s hip-roof cottage. Kim completed her degree in Interior Design from Kendall College of Art and Design, while Tony completed his degree in Automotive Business Management. Continuing with their careers, the two spent their free time exploring the state of Michigan as avid outdoor adventurers.
Their interest in recreation led them to camping and boating on the waterways, where they started dabbling with canvas and vinyl. As their children grew older, the family chose to downsize, trying their hand at building a small wooden teardrop trailer modeled by the boat-building company, Chesapeake Light Craft. They customized the design, adding porthole windows and custom vinyl upholstery. The experience was so fulfilling that they advanced to boat building, completing a 15’ wooden runabout appropriately named “At Ease”. The project even won second place at the Hessel Antique Wooden Boat Show in 2023. These new projects led them to the necessity of protection for their wooden beauties!
They began to fabricate their own custom designed, high quality canvases, covers, awnings, and upholstery. The combination of career experience in design and business led to the creation of Orion Master Canvas.
